DANO PENDYGRASSE photo show at BJG in Whistler

blakegallery_poster.jpg

ODDS AND ENDS FROM AN UNUSAL LIFE, no doubt. Our man Dano is showing a bunch of his  stuff at the Blake Jorgenson Gallery in Whistler this month. The Opener is MARCH 21st at 7pm. This should be interesting as his archives run deep. All you kids should get your shit straight and try and go see this if you can squeeze in past all the drunken over 30 crowd that will no doubt be ruling it over there. Soak in some history, rub some elbows, pick up a cougar…..who knows

Behind the scene(sters) Crispin Cannon’s Deep Winter Photo Challenge

deep.jpg

Some of Crispin’s many images

The Deep Winter Photo Challenge is just that, a challenge, not to mention and one hell of a 3 day bender. 5 invited photogs had 3 days to shoot a 4 minute slide show on Whistler Blackcomb. Throw in horribly dangerous snow conditions and rain, and folks we be partying on the bad side of luck. But prevail yee must. Crispin knew he had to come up with something a little unique to get noticed so he turned his efforts to a cinematic angle and crafted a common yet beautiful tale of the average day in the life of a shred dog meeting up with a homie to bust some moves. Crispin’s team consisted  David “Nalu” Aubry and Chris Rasman doing the Snowboarding, David Rouleau and Gerhard Gross working as his Photo Assistants and filmaker Benny Stoddard as the Editor. Gerhard also doubled as their lovely model.

…and now for some behind the scenes photos sent in from our favorite behind-the-scenester David Rouleau, thanks dude.

Crispin Cannon

dw1.jpg

When your hiking a steep slope in nipple-high bottomless powder during a rain shower, you can’t help but feel like Rocky when you reach the top of that shit. Crispin Cannon day 1.

dw2.jpg

David had verbal diarrhea the whole contest, Rouleau flash whore, photo assistant and color commentator.

dw3.jpg

Gerhard the actor. The camera ads a chin or two i swear.

dw4.jpg

Chris “Rasmutant-hungry-balls” Rasman and David  ”Nalu” Aubry. I think this was a good choice for riders, a young keen one and an older wise one. Nalu would watch as Chris would send it into rocky flat landings wich earned him the nick name hungry balls. Nalu easy-styled it and picked his battles a little more cautiously, landing clean airs and perfect pow turns and Chris dropped the gnar all contest.

dw5.jpg

Gross does Rasman. Gerhard dresses up in Rasmutants kit for the non shred shots.

dw61.jpg

Chris scoping the first shot “is that a rock? i dunno ahh fuck it”

dw7.jpg

Gerhard says fuck raising the roof i’m raising the bubble bitch….ok that was bad.

dw8.jpg

Is that a shot? i think thats a shot, its a shot.

Gerhard day 3, feeling the lag.

ARTIST of the week Zoe Strauss

zs_header.jpg

If there’s one thing i love about America and American art, with the exception of coarse of anything having to do with nature photographs, its photos of Americana. Photos that celebrate and “depict the bittersweet beauty of everyday life and lay bare the human comedy”. Lately i’ve been paying a fare bit of attention to NY based photographer Will Steacy, he seems like a really cool cat. As of recently he did a interview with an other American photographer, Zoe Strauss for photo-eye magazine.  Zoe’s new book simply titled  America is fast becoming the most talked photo book of 2008 and if you get chance to view it you’ll see why,”In highly formal compositions, she uses photography to create epic narratives that pursue a hopeful quality in adverse conditions and how people manage to live their lives” I just love stuff like that. You can purchase America By Zoe Strauss HERE  and check out tones of photos and press on her blog HERE

MATT BEARDMORE -the (art)fag lurks within. Photos from a tender mind

beardrainbow.jpg

Gnarcore.com’s Matt Beardmore is a complex character. Underneath that rugged, brawny exterior lies tender young boy who’s mind is a garden and who’s heart is filled with romantic poetry. If his secret tears could be gathered they would quench the thirst of a thousand nations.

Click below to view Matt’s point and shoot photography that we dug up and forgot we had.

have a beautiful day and as always go fuck your self.
