Our friend Cherie Carswell (who happens to be a designer over at Westbeach) emailed us last week saying that she was going to this “crazy tranny show” that we had to check out. And since we’re not the type to back down from anything weird and unusual we said SHIT YES! We had our interns do a little research and found out that it was non other the world renown transvestite Amada Lepore wich according to Soap box prophet (wich we religiously acknowledge) is “the tranny to top all trannies” (ok?) and she would be playing at some bar called the Biltmore. Playing…we don’t know what but it sounded freaky and crazy and dammit we wanted in. Instantly we dropped the mounds of paper work, html-codeing and all sorts of other technical internet workings that we do here at gnarcore.com and called gnarcoraspondent and cultural documenter DAVID ROULEAU who happen to already be in Vancouver. Color Magazine is my favorite mag in the whole world. So i asked my friend if he’d come with me to the opening reception of Etnies and Color magazines A ROLLING PERSPECTIVE on last Saturday night at Anti Social. He was like “whats that?” and i said “i dunno i think its this photo show of a bunch of people that shot them selves riding skateboards. You know like point-of-view style” “meh” he said and then asked if anything else was going on. I quickly hung up the phone, hurried out the door and made my way to Anti Social.

After that useless phone call i wasn’t expecting much. Upon arrival to the show i realized why i always enjoy going to shows at antisocial. People are drinking, people are talking, people are skating the mini ramp and above all there’s usually alway good art. Etnies and Color had asked skaters to shoot a photo of themsleves from thier own rolling perspective. Over 200 portraits had been collected from all over Canada, the U.S and as far as japan. A selection of these portraits of pro skaters, artists, photographers, filmers, desginers and many other talented familiars from the skate scene had been composed into the exhibition in a celebration of skateboarding. Mark Appleyard, John Rattray, Yogi Proctor and Dylan Doubt to name a few ….a very few cause there was lots more.

In closing the show was rad. People are different and different people interpret things with their own flare and style it was cool to see how the various photos showed that off. The show will be next rolling its way through the country with stops in Montreal (QC),Winnipeg (MB), Calgary (AB) and Toronto.

New kid on the stand SLASH SNOWBOARD MAG, coming off the hands of some real life shreds had its issue #3 release party last week in Whistler. Rouge gnarcore-aspondent Andrew Campbell was on hand to document. Oli is really fucking good at taking pictures, so much so that he does it for a living. Pick up any issue of snowboarder and its not hard to see why he’s one of the best on the scene these days. Now that he has his hands (not to mention photos) in Slash i’m sure only good things will come of this.

got sample sales. Have you heard of these? No? Well Google a map, stick your broke ass thumb out and hitch down to Richmond for the mad deals son cause BSA is selling all their sample gear.

Now some of you may be saying…Hey Ronnie what a sample? Well let me clue you in so you don’t look like a douche in front of all your geeky industry savvy shred friends. You see when a company comes out with a new line for the upcoming season the make samples. These samples are usually a 95% replica of the actual unit it self. I little less water proof and perhaps limited in sizing but “THAT NEW SHIT” non the less. These companies have reps and they ..well they Represent the company to stores. How can you see the new line? SAMPLES…now your getting it son. So anyway Johnny rep goes shopping to stores and trade shows and show all thoes little too-cool-for-school shop buyers all they fresh new gear and they decide wether or not they want to buy it or not. Or if you a major shop like say…Showcase in whistler you only carry Burton cause your owned by itrawest and probley on the take.  

That Being said check out BSA’s sample sale this weekend and be sure to tell Brady Stoddard and T-money that Ronnie sent ya.

You see Rouleau went down to sunpeaks with the Whistler Valley crew and didn’t return..or at least no one has seen proof of his return. He was suposse to hook up with Fortin, Heartman, Beaulieu, and VDP and report back on the contest but no word yet. The day after the contest a photo of him surfaced on facebook with our boy sporting a golf ball sized shinner and THATS IT!! Rumors has it he’s either shacked up in a North Vancouver Hospital or has again “quite snowboarding” and joined the marine corp. Like any friend and loyal associate i’m going to do my best to decipher the photographs.Apparently he was seen starting off his evening with these wild women. Pro womens champs. Taylor Godber (2nd) and Breanna Stangland (1st). I mean wouldn’t you? Look at these chicks…they fucking rule...and then. Enter this man: Barry H.
